Hunter Bethea

Hunter Bethea is the Director of Deferred Compensation for the Tennessee Department of Treasury. Hunter oversees the State of Tennessee 401(k), 457(b), Optional Retirement Program, and other State-sponsored deferred compensation plans within RetireReadyTN, the State’s retirement program.
Hunter became Director in 2018 after joining the Tennessee Treasury Department as Assistant Director in 2016. In these roles, he supported a large expansion in the number of plan employers and participants, led State sponsorship of public higher education 403(b) plans, and collaborated with plan service providers and other customer-focused programs of the Tennessee Department of Treasury to enhance participant education initiatives.
Hunter attended the University of Virginia, where he earned his B.A. in Political Science, and Georgetown University, where he earned an MBA. Prior to joining the Tennessee Department of Treasury, Hunter served in multiple legislative support roles in the United States Senate.
